Kesel grew up in East Lansing, Michigan. After earning his Masters Degree in Communications from the University of Illinois, he launched a successful 20-year career in advertising, including working for some of the world’s best known ad agencies.
His passion for photography motivated him to leave Madison Avenue and head west to Arizona in 1991. Here, he knew he could find an abundance of stimulating subjects to capture with his camera year-round.
He has traveled the Sierra Nevada’s in California, explored many of the Southwestern states’ National Parks and sought out visual treasures on the Hopi and Navajo Lands in Arizona and New Mexico. Utah’s Bryce Canyon and Arches National Monument and the San Juan Mountains of Colorado have become special places to this artist meriting multiple visits for photographic journeys.
Kesel teaches photography and “the art of seeing” to aspiring photographers. He leads photography workshops throughout the Southwest.
His work has been published in numerous publications including the photo workshop guide by Arizona Highways and Foothills Magazine, among others. His work is shown regularly at Phoenix area galleries, including Vision Gallery in Chandler, AZ, Sundust Gallery in Mesa and Tempe Center for the Arts. His work was featured in a single-artist show at Chandler Center for the Arts.
