While on a Spring search for wildflowers and cactus blossoms in Western Arizona, near Alamo Lake, I happened upon this pristine red Cholla blossom with two perfectly formed buds that were yet to open. I used a 200 mm lens at F 5.6 to keep the blossom and buds sharp while blurring the background in order to highlight the parts of the composition that were most interesting. The mid morning light was coming from the sun through a light cloud layer making it ideal for spotlighting the subject without creating distracting shadows.
