Yucca on the Rocks

On a morning following a storm, I was leading a group of photographers on a hike up Paralta Trail in the Superstition Mountains, East of Phoenix. The clouds made the light soft and the plants and earth were still moist from the rain (an infrequent occurrence in the desert). Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted this glowing green Yucca about 40 yards off the trail. As I went to check it out, I saw that it was nestled in between a pair of golden rocks. I framed the composition from directly above the plant in order to make the most of the dramatic contrast between the brightly colored plant and rocks and the deep tone of the damp earth.
